“HIDDEN GEMS OF TEXAS HILL COUNTRY” SCREENING RAISES THOUSANDS FOR FLOOD RELIEF AND TEAM RUBICON
JOHNSON CITY, Texas — On July 10 Carter Creek Winery Resort & Spa hosted a special screening of PBS’s “Hidden Gems of Texas Hill Country” and raised more than $8,700 to support disaster response organization Team Rubicon and victims of the recent floods that devastated parts of the Texas Hill Country.
Held in Carter Creek’s event pavilion, members of the community, local leaders and partners including Garrison Brothers Distillery and Wildseed Farms gathered for an inspiring night of film, philanthropy and camaraderie. Guests enjoyed small bites, award-winning wines, craft beverages and live music as they supported Texas Hill Country residents and survivors. Jim and Dawn Carter, owners of Carter Creek Winery Resort & Spa, donated all of the evening’s wine sales and proceeds directly to Team Rubicon.
Event guests previewed the PBS episode “Hidden Gems of Texas Hill Country” as part of famed travel journalist Peter Greenberg’s “Travel Detective” series, which showcases the people, places and spirit that make this region a national treasure. Following the screening Carter Creek general manager Derek Stutz moderated a panel discussion with key figures featured in the episode. Panelists included Carter Creek’s award-winning winemaker Jon McPherson and head brewer Justin Zimmerman; Dan and Nancy Garrison of Garrison Brothers Distillery, along with master distiller Donnis Todd; and John Thomas, owner of Wildseed Farms. They shared personal insights about their passions for preserving the cultural and environmental heritage of Hill Country.
“This was more than a screening – it was a celebration of community and a very important call to action,” said Stutz. “We’re grateful to everyone who attended, donated and is lending their support to help our neighbors recover and rebuild.”
Team Rubicon is a veteran-led disaster response organization currently working on flood recovery efforts across Central Texas. More information about the film or contributing to Team Rubicon’s mission is available here.
