OLD 290 BREWERY AT CARTER CREEK WINERY RESORT & SPA WINS TWO MEDALS AT FREDERICKSBURG’S FIRST CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL

JOHNSON CITY, Texas (June 27, 2022) – Carter Creek Winery Resort & Spa, a luxurious retreat in the heart of the Texas Hill Country and the only winery resort with a brewery in the region, announces its Old 290 Brewery has won two medals in the first Fredericksburg Craft Beer Festival, which was held at Marktplatz von Fredericksburg City Park on June 10 and 11.

The competition was open to any Texas brewery licensed to produce and sell beer in Texas. The activities at the June 11 festival event included craft beer sampling, a homebrew suppliers’ sales area, live music, a food court and mingling with craft beer aficionados.

Old 290 Brewery’s Hell Raiser Bourbon Barrel Brown won a coveted Gold Medal and the brewery’s El Bigote Mexican Lager was awarded a Bronze Medal. Both on tap at Old 290 Brewery and Restaurant that serves Texas-inspired cuisine in a rustic yet refined setting.

Head Brewer Justin Zimmerman and his team at the microbrewery describe the winners:

Hell Raiser Bourbon Barrel Brown is a full bodied and toasty double brown ale with pronounced caramel malt notes throughout. Aged for two months in Garrison Brothers bourbon barrels, it exhibits vanilla, toffee and bourbon warmth from these barrels striking a perfect balance with the base beer itself.

El Bigote Mexican Lager’s Spanish namesake is “The Mustache,” and it is a perfect pairing for celebrating festive times with its crisp flavors of pilsner malt and flaked corn. It is fermented with a true Mexican lager yeast giving it a crushable and clean profile.

“We are very pleased that two Old 290 Brewery selections have been honored at the first Fredericksburg Craft Beer Festival,” said Matt Kleefisch, general manager of the 78-room brewery and winery resort. “Our brewery is only three years old and as our Head Brewer Justin always says our goal is to always brew some complex soul pleasers. Also, we are proud to be part of a Texas Hill Country event that gives back to the community.”

Fredericksburg’s First Craft Beer Festival was presented by the Rotary Club of Fredericksburg Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on improving the community and the world. Eighty percent of the event’s proceeds are donated to support the Rotary’s local charitable efforts, and 20% of proceeds are contributed to The Grace Center, which assists domestic violence victims and their families.
