Beer vs. Wine Dinner on November 19; Thanksgiving To-Go at JC Smokehouse
JOHNSON CITY, Texas – Carter Creek Winery Resort & Spa – Texas Hill Country’s only winery and brewery resort – has created a robust three-course dinner event featuring Old 290 Brewery & Restaurant’s Texas cuisine on Friday, November 19, paired with the resort’s award-winning wines from its winery and handcrafted beer selections from its brewery. Then for Thanksgiving celebrations at home or anywhere diners choose, the resort will be offering delicious classic, everyone’s favorites holiday fare from JC Smokehouse – to be prepared and picked up on November 24 or 25. JC Smokehouse will also serve its customary menu with Thanksgiving specials.
Beer vs. Wine Dinner at Old 290 Brewery
Friday, November 19, at 6:30 p.m.
This special Beer vs. Wine Dinner is a creative culinary collaboration among the kitchen team at the resort’s Old 290 Brewery & Restaurant and beverage accompaniments selected by Head Brewer Justin Zimmerman and Wine Club Manager Marcus Moreno, who will both attend the event. The friendly bout will start with a toast from the resort’s beer and wine teams, followed by a chef-paired three-course meal. First Course presents Seared Black Ahi with Asian slaw, wasabi cream, citrus ponzu and pineapple mango salsa, paired with 2017 Gloriosa and Peach Smoked Helles Lager. Second Course features Braised Boneless Short Rib served with brown buttered gnocchi, roasted root vegetables and natural jus, paired with Group Therapy Red Blend and Hell Raiser Bourbon Barrel Brown, a collaboration with Garrison Brothers Distillery. Dessert Finale is Rum Raisin Cake with vanilla bean gelato and rum infused apple compote, paired with Dominum Tinto Port and Rumpelstiltskin Smoked Imperial Porter.

Thanksgiving To-Go Packages Presented at JC Smokehouse
Order by Wednesday, November 3. Pick up dates are Wednesday, November 24, (cold pickup only) or Thursday, November 25, from 12 to 6 p.m. (hot or cold pickup and available with reheating instructions.)
This Thanksgiving JC Smokehouse at Carter Creek Winery Resort & Spa will feature a festive holiday dinner to-go package – complete with all the classic Turkey-Day mouthwatering housemade favorites. To be picked up and then shared at home or wherever with people who want to celebrate and dine together with no muss and no fuss. The dinner includes a smoked 10-pound turkey, green bean casserole (1 pint), yams with marshmallows and maple brown sugar glaze (1 pint), traditional sourdough and sage stuffing (1 pint), cranberry sauce (1 pint), gravy (1 pint), red skin mashed potatoes (1 pint), Hawaiian dinner rolls (6) and a 10-inch pumpkin pie. A Carter Creek Winery mixed case of 12 bottles of wine is also available for those ordering the to-go package dinner. It includes three bottles of sparkling peach brut, three bottles of viognier/roussanne, three bottles of Group Therapy and three bottles of tempranillo.
To-go package serves four people for $150 ($37.50 per person); Wine Club members receive 15% discount. Heating instructions included. Food comes in re-heatable containers. Mixed wine case is $339.53 for mixed 12-bottle case; $279.61 for Wine Club members.
In addition to the to-go package dinner, a la carte selections may be added to orders. Included are smoked proteins of either smoked 10-pound turkey for $60 or classic 10-pound smoked brisket for $128. To purchase sides, one smoked protein must be ordered, and there is a three side minimum. Each side is $10 for one pint. Choices include green bean casserole, yams with marshmallows and maple brown sugar glaze, traditional sourdough and sage stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, mashed potatoes and Hawaiian dinner rolls (6). Additional desserts are available (one smoked protein must be ordered). Desserts are a 10-inch pecan pie, $24 and 10-inch pumpkin pie, $10.

Carter Creek’s JC Smokehouse will be serving its regular menu on Thanksgiving, and diners may also order from the Thanksgiving to-go options. Old 290 Brewery & Restaurant will be closed for the holiday. Old 290 Brewery will serve beverages only on Thanksgiving from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
